ETS is 18!
On 31st October 1998, ETS launched its first product – Essential Aromatherapy. Who would have thought that from that one CD and a series of 3 manuals, we would have grown into the business we are today? We didn’t! So here we are, a VTCT Approved Centre, CPD partners with the Federation of Holistic Therapists and Association of Reflexologists, an International Federation of Professional Aromatherapists CDP approved centre, and the recommended Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology training provider for Bowen Training and the Bowen Association! Plus we work with many training providers both in the UK and abroad, offering these affiliates the means to take advantage of our accredited and approved online courses. It has been quite a journey! To celebrate this coming of age, we have a special birthday offer.
This year Essential Training Solutions (ETS) celebrates its 10th anniversary as a VTCT Centre. ETS was the first VTCT Centre to deliver VTCT accredited qualifications totally online. Starting with the (blast from the past!) C1060 Level 3 Diploma in Anatomy & Physiology, ETS has seen many changes. Company Director Sharon Coleman said:
“It has been a very exciting decade in which we have seen many upgrades in the course syllabus and qualification framework. It has been challenging at times, but we have always strived to stay ahead of the game to ensure that the courses we offer continue to meet current market needs and are of the highest quality. Most importantly we have always kept our human touch and this is reflected in the reputation we hold for providing the best student support available. We look forward to seeing what the next 10 years has in store! Thank you VTCT for all your support.”
As well as guaranteeing the success of its own students, ETS also works with many training providers who require their students to hold the Level 3 Certificate in Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology for Complementary Therapies (AC30407), but who prefer to spend more precious classroom time teaching the therapy, rather than this theory. The ETS course is available 24/7 and includes lively, interactive tutorials covering the whole syllabus, plus a study manual and CD for off-line study and post-course reference. All assessments are marked immediately online, allowing students to progress from home, at their own pace, in their own time. Health & Safely tutorials are also provided in the package. ETS works with its affiliates to help ensure that each individual student successfully completes the course within the necessary timescale and updates the training provider with the student’s progress as required. To quote the first ETS strapline, “Why Make It Difficult?”.

We are delighted to announce that we have released a Kindle version of our Complete Pathology for Complementary Therapies book. This is the first Kindle publication we have ever released and it is available on Amazon now! An epub version has also been produced. This is available from digital book retailers such as Waterstones, Hive, Kobo, WHSmith and Tesco.
We have released a Maintaining Best Practice area on the web site to offer a selection of tutorials to help therapists keep up to date with working practices. As a part of this we also released a Protection from Abuse tutorial for free. All Maintaining Best Practice modules enable students to print off a certificate of participation for their CPD portfolios.
We are delighted to announce that we have released the Client Management System V3. CMS is software specifically designed to meet the working needs of the therapist. CMS is tailored to the requirements of the complementary healthcare practitioner. It is not an “off-the-shelf” database package. It has multi-user functionality too and so it can be used in clinics, where any number of therapists can logon to benefit from its functionality.
We are delighted to announce that the FHT has approved a new course for us – a Level 3 Diploma in Further Pathology. This course has been written as a follow-on to our original Pathology course and contains a further 80 conditions. It is approved as an FHT Short Course and is credited with 10 CPD points. No attendance is required.
Our FHT-approved Level 3 Diploma in Anatomy & Physiology, an FHT Qualification Course, has been added to the FHT/ETS Partnership courses. These partnership courses are offered to FHT Members from the Online CPD section of the FHT web site.
We have released the VTCT Level 3 Certificate in Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology for Complementary Therapies (AC30407, QAN: 600/4845/1, Unit: R/503/7640). The Level 3 Diploma has been withdrawn. This qualification hits the QCF on 1st September but students can enrol with us with immediate effect.
We are delighted to announce that we are the preferred Anatomy and Physiology training provider for the Bowen Association and Bowen Training. Any Bowen therapist who does not hold an accredited qualification in Anatomy and Physiology is to be encouraged to take the VTCT Level 3 Certificate in Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology for Complementary Therapies. ETS has produced a Bowen-only version of this new QCF qualification (QAN: 600/4845/1). This qualification not only meets the needs of Bowen Association membership but, as the VTCT is a Government-approved awarding organisation, successful candidates will hold a qualification that is nationally recognised and would therefore be accepted as approved prior learning for other complementary therapy disciplines.
In addition to this, ETS is providing refresher courses for Bowen therapists in Anatomy and Physiology, Health and Safety, and Pathology. Successful candidates will receive a Bow-Tech endorsed certificate. These courses are to be recommended to existing Bowen Association members to keep these core subjects up-to-date. Additionally, these Bow-Tech approved courses will function as “top-up” courses for potential Association members whose experience in these subjects, particularly Health and Safety, is insufficient to meet the Bowen Association’s entry criteria.
We are delighted to announce that we are now an IFPA CPD Approved Centre! We offer 3 online CPD courses for IFPA (International Federation of Professional Aromatherapists) members. Each course is worth 12 CPD points (the full IFPA annual requirement) and no attendance is required. The courses are all Level 3 and can be taken in the core subjects of Anatomy & Physiology, Pathology and Health & Safety.
From 1st September changes are to be made for all
Complementary Therapy qualifications. These changes
affect ALL awarding organisations (e.g. VTCT, ITEC
etc). From 1st September it will not be possible to
enrol on an accredited QCF Level 3 Diploma in Anatomy,
Physiology and Pathology. Only Level 3 Certificates
will be available. Although the content will remain
fundamentally the same, the number of credits
allocated to the qualifications is changing. This is
how the VTCT Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology will be
Level 3 Diploma in Anatomy, Physiology & Pathology
Qualification Number: 501/1873/0
T/501/9101 Knowledge of Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology for Complementary Therapies, 38 credits, 90 guided learning hours
D/501/9111 Knowledge of Less Common Pathology for Complementary Therapies, 4 credits, 30 guided learning hours
From 1st September:
Level 3 Certificate in Anatomy, Physiology & Pathology for Complementary Therapies
Qualification Number: 600/4845/1
R/503/7640 Knowledge of Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology for Complementary Therapies, 13 credits, 94 guided learning hours
As you can see, the credits have dropped from 42 to 13. The reason given for this is that credits allocated have been inflated from the beginning and therefore they needed to be readdressed. For a qualification to be categorised as a Diploma, 37 or more credits are required. Therefore, from 1st September, all accredited qualifications in Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology for Complementary Therapies will be Certificates.
Guided learning hours have also been dropped across the board. This reason given for this is that they have previously incorporated too much time for non-classroom study.
ETS will be running the Level 3 Diploma until 1st July, and then we will begin registering for the Certificate. If you would like the word "Diploma" on your wall, rather than "Certificate", or need the higher number of credits, then time is running out. All QCF qualifications have 3 years for certification from the end date. You would therefore have until 31st August 2015 to pass the Level 3 Diploma.
If you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact us. We are always here to help.

The Client Management System (CMS) is the perfect tool to help any therapist keep detailed and accurate case histories, manage appointments and help run the business effectively and efficiently.
Many of you will remember CMS, originally released in 2003 and updated in 2006. We were forced to withdraw it at the end of last year because it wasn't compatible with Windows 7, but, due to popular demand, it is going to be upgraded and re-released! Not only that but it will be receiving a total make-over and new features will be added.
We are delighted to announce the release of a new book! Covering 150+ conditions, Complete Pathology for Complementary Therapies is a must-have for all complementary therapists, students and tutors. It was written in partnership with the Association of Reflexologists but it has no bias to reflexology. It is written as a generic guide to support ALL therapists.
In the first quarter of 2011 we were commissioned by the Association of Reflexologists to develop a Bridging Course to facilitate membership to those who qualified with the VTCT prior to January 2011. As a result of this course, we wrote an Additional Pathology course. This, in conjunction with our original Pathology course, covers all the conditions listed in the core curriculum. The combination of these two course created Complete Pathology, which is the recommended route to AoR membership for those with an ITEC or IEB qualification that contains insufficient pathology to meet membership criteria. The Complete Pathology content is to be released as a book, which will become an invaluable reference for all complementary therapists.
For the full range of AoR courses available please click here.
We are thrilled to be in partnership with the Federation of Holistic Therapists (FHT) to offer 2 of our FHT-Approved courses at a specially discounted price for FHT members.
We are delighted to announce that we are now working in partnership with the Association of Reflexologists (AOR) to offer continuing professional development (CPD) courses! The courses are all Level 3 and cover Anatomy & Physiology, Pathology and Health & Safety. Each course has been awarded 20 CPD points by the AOR. Confused about CPD? Click here.
On 18th August the VTCT confirmed that the Level 3 Diploma in Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology for Complementary Therapies (AC30030) would be updated. The words "Complementary Therapies" have been dropped from its title and this updated qualification, now the AC30223, includes a second unit, the D/501/9111 (Knowledge of Less Common Pathology for Complementary Therapies) as well as the original unit T/501/9101 (Knowledge of Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology for Complementary Therapies). The good news is that the overall number of conditions you are required to study remains the same but successful candidates now receive accredited prior learning for two key units on the QCF and are awarded 42 credits instead of the original 38. Students currently enrolled on our online AC30030 can, if they wish, apply for accredited prior learning for the less common pathology unit - so everyone's a winner! Confused about Awards, Certificates and Diplomas? Click here.
We are delighted to announce that the FHT have approved our Level 3 Diploma in Pathology. This CPD course covers 72 medical conditions and is worth 10 points. A great online home study course to both extend and refresh knowledge. Click here for more details.
The long running VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Anatomy & Physiology (D1060) has been withdrawn. Its accreditation end date on the QCF is 31st July. The certification end date (the date by which all claims for certificates must be made) is 31st July 2013. The natural replacement for this course is the VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology for Complementary Therapies (AC30030). This has been offered online since the beginning of June. The VTCT do not currently have a Level 3 Diploma in Anatomy & Physiology. They do offer a Level 3 Award but this is not of the same standard. Orchard Print Services have put all their 10 members of staff and both Directors through Starting Work Safely. Janet Head, Director of Orchard Print Services, says,
“We were looking for a structured assessment-based induction for new staff and needed to ensure that the knowledge of our current staff was up to date. Starting Work Safely allowed us to deliver validated training without disrupting the running of the business. The staff found the course easy to use and really enjoyed the interactive tutorials. The opportunity to self-test at every stage built confidence and reinforced knowledge whilst preparing them for their summative assessments. I have evidence that all staff have passed an approved training course, every member of staff has been awarded a certificate from IOSH, and the whole experience has been very successful.”

It is probably a hangover from school days but the word “exam” or “assessment” always seems to send shivers down even the most robust spine! Fear not, for here at ETS there is no ruler on stand by to rap knuckles, and it is rare that anyone could be intimidated by a warm greeting, friendly faces, comforting hot drinks, biscuits, a laugh and even hugs if required. We understand how important the Diplomas are to you – after all they are often life changing – and we care about your success just as much as you do. Enjoy the best of both worlds with us - study from home AND enjoy the experience of the final assessment too! Here’s a group photo taken after a recent final assessment.
